A student-led movement in Serbia is challenging the ruling party after a deadly 2024 tragedy sparked nationwide protests against government corruption.

A student-led movement now challenges the long-standing rule of the Serbian Progressive Party. This group, known as the Student List, emerged following a tragic railway station collapse in 2024. That event killed sixteen people and sparked massive public anger over safety and corruption.

Also, many citizens and experts joined the students in their cause. They now seek a total overhaul of a system they call corrupt. The movement represents one of the biggest threats to President Aleksandar Vucic in years.

Meanwhile, law student Kosta Golubovic says the state must serve its people. He argues that criminals and mafia groups currently hold too much power. He cites issues like failing schools and police misconduct as reasons for needed change.

Next, the movement grew into a large protest force. Tens of thousands of people joined these demonstrations across the country. Students focus on peaceful action and remain organized through daily voting assemblies.

Furthermore, the group uses a leaderless structure to prevent government interference. They clean up after every protest and make decisions through democratic votes. This approach helps them maintain a clear, non-violent focus.

However, state media and officials often criticize the student activists. President Vucic has even labeled them as terrorists. Despite this, the students continue to push for a new political direction in Serbia.

After that, the group released a formal plan called the Student Plan. It covers eleven points aimed at systemic change. Cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic leads this effort and seeks to replace current corrupt structures.

Finally, the platform calls for a special police unit and new laws on asset ownership. They also want to improve rural medical care. While some experts doubt the movement can change the entire political climate, the students remain determined to win on Sunday.
