Israel has suspended commercial imports into Gaza, citing a tax dispute with Hamas. Local officials deny the claims and blame Israeli restrictions.

Israeli officials recently stopped all commercial goods from entering Gaza. This ban has lasted for two full days. COGAT, the Israeli military body overseeing Gaza, announced the decision on Wednesday.

Also, COGAT claims that local merchants stopped the shipments. They allege that Hamas imposed a new fee on every truck. They also claim Hamas demanded 30 percent of all sales in cash.

However, Gaza’s government media office denies these accusations. They call the statements a campaign of disinformation. They argue that Israel is trying to blame them for the supply disruption.

Meanwhile, the government says the fees are actually voluntary donations. These funds help vulnerable people like widows and orphans. They also noted that cash is used only because of a severe currency shortage.

Then, the leader of the local truckers union spoke out. Nahed Sheheiber stated that Israel is actually responsible for the restrictions. He says officials are using the fees as a false excuse.

As a result, the supply of food and winter clothing is now blocked. This situation creates deep worries for the 2.1 million people living in the territory. Many residents already face a dangerous famine.

Next, aid organizations warned about the impact on local markets. They explain that humanitarian aid alone cannot feed the entire population. Markets must remain open to keep prices stable and affordable.

Finally, experts worry about the coming winter months. A global hunger monitor previously warned of extreme food insecurity. Reports show that far fewer than the promised 600 trucks enter Gaza daily.
