The events occurred just hours apart, drawing immediate attention to the mechanical integrity of aircraft operating within one of the nation's busiest transit hubs. Both incidents involved standard passenger flights that were successfully landed, though the subsequent tire failures necessitated emergency protocols to ensure the safety of those on board.
The first incident involved American Airlines Flight 386, a Boeing 737-800 arriving from New York's LaGuardia Airport. According to reports, the crew identified two blown tires shortly after the aircraft touched down at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time. In accordance with safety procedures, the plane was met at a standard jet bridge; instead, they were required to exit the plane via mobile airstairs and were subsequently transported to the terminal
A second incident occurred in the early evening, involving United Airlines Flight 739. The FAA also opened a separate investigation into the Midway incident, which, like the O'Hare events, resulted in no reported injuries to passengers or crew members.
The incidents take place against the backdrop of a highly congested summer travel season at Chicago O'Hare. As one of the world's primary aviation nodes, the airport serves a massive volume of domestic and international traffic.
