Europe must develop a war economy to ensure its own security as reliance on the United States diminishes.

For years, European leaders viewed the regional war as a distant threat. They failed to see it as a direct danger to their foundations. Russia continues its destructive campaign in Ukraine while the continent struggles to maintain unity. Policymakers must now shift their focus toward long-term defense strategies.

Meanwhile, the United States policy remains uncertain under President Trump. He often threatens to cut support for Ukraine and forces difficult settlements. Europe cannot rely on Washington to guarantee its safety anymore. It must develop the strength to defend itself independently.

Also, the European Union needs a formal war economy to survive. This requires building industrial capacity and strong financial systems. Leaders must find ways to constrain Moscow through economic pressure. They also need to sustain their own military resources effectively.

Then, the EU must establish a permanent framework for joint borrowing. Officials used similar methods during the pandemic to fund recovery programs. These temporary fixes worked well but remain insufficient for long-term wartime needs. A dedicated fiscal-military state would provide more stability.

Next, Europe should learn from American private sector successes. Companies like SpaceX created technologies that changed modern warfare significantly. European nations lack this level of independent technological development. They must fund their own innovations to avoid relying on outside private actors.

However, some nations worry about increasing their national debt levels. Experts suggest using frozen Russian assets to support new borrowing efforts. While some countries fear legal retaliation, these risks remain manageable. The bloc must act collectively to overcome these internal hesitations.

After that, Europe must tighten control over its economic ties with Russia. Certain banks and companies still facilitate deals that help the Kremlin. These legal loopholes undermine sanctions and weaken the continent's overall bargaining position. Authorities must stop this behavior immediately.

Finally, Europe should decrease its reliance on United States foreign policy. It can build new partnerships with Gulf states to secure energy supplies. By offering reliable trade deals, Europe can gain more influence. The continent possesses the resources to finance its own security needs today.
