New US sanctions on Iranian airlines have caused widespread flight cancellations and significantly increased travel costs for passengers.
New American sanctions against Iranian airlines have caused major travel problems. Travelers now face long delays and very high ticket prices. A trip from Tehran to Dubai that once took three hours now takes nearly a full day. Costs for these tickets have jumped from $200 to over $1,000 in just a few weeks.
Meanwhile, the United States launched Operation Economic Outcast to pressure Iran. This plan targets sectors still connected to global markets. The US sanctioned 27 airlines operating in the country. It also threatened fuel and service providers with strict financial penalties.
As a result, many nations suspended flights to Iran. Turkmenistan, the UAE, Azerbaijan, and Georgia stopped allowing Iranian carriers in their airspace. Some flights to Iraq and Turkey faced cancellations as well. One flight even turned back mid-journey after being denied entry to foreign airspace.
Also, international air links were already weak before these new rules. A regional conflict had previously caused most global airlines to stop serving Iran. Now, the network remains severely limited despite some flights to China and Russia still operating.
However, these changes hurt regular people the most. One man named Amir described his mother's struggle to reach her doctors in Iran. She must now wait days in Istanbul just to find a connecting flight. He noted that buying tickets from abroad is also very difficult.
Next, industry experts report a sharp drop in travel bookings. Majid Hosseini-Nejad of Alibaba Travel Group says international flight operations fell by 20 percent. This decline hurts both travel agencies and the airlines themselves.
Finally, Iran’s Foreign Ministry continues to search for solutions to restore air travel. They hope to negotiate new agreements with other nations. For now, passengers continue to suffer from last-minute cancellations and long, stressful journeys.
