The son of a convicted Kenyan cult leader rescued his younger siblings from continued forced fasting. Authorities recently convicted his father of 191 murders.
Paul Mackenzie, a Kenyan cult leader, recently received a murder conviction. He forced his followers to starve their children to death. He claimed this action helped them meet Jesus.
However, the danger continues for his remaining family members. His eldest son, Dan Mackenzie, reports that his younger siblings faced forced starvation recently. He alerted the police about this situation two weeks ago.
Next, officers rescued eight children from the grandmother’s home. This group included five of Dan’s younger brothers and sisters. They now stay at a rescue center for safety.
Also, Dan shared his own painful history with the cult. He says his father forced him to fast for nearly a week at age twelve. Members also beat him to force his attendance at church services.
Then, the son explained why he reported his own grandmother. He realized his family still followed his father’s dangerous teachings. He felt he had to act to his siblings from harm.
Meanwhile, the cult leader’s doctrine strictly forbade modern medicine. He also banned all forms of formal education for his followers. Dan left school when he was only seven years old.
As a result, Dan now works as a motorcycle taxi driver in Malindi. He supports himself and the siblings he helped rescue. He hopes the recent court verdict brings peace to grieving families.
Finally, the court convicted Mackenzie and twenty-eight other leaders of 191 murders. Justice Diana Mochache described how followers viewed the leader as a divine messenger. The court will issue a formal sentence on November 6.
