Residents of the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky are evacuating during a new ceasefire. Many others choose to stay despite the lack of basic utilities.

People living in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky are currently leaving their homes. Both Russian and Ukrainian officials confirmed the start of this evacuation process.

Also, a ceasefire now covers the Kherson region. This agreement began on Tuesday. It allowed experts to clear landmines from the main road out of town.

Next, officials organized a convoy of 25 buses. These vehicles carry up to 750 people to safety. The evacuation window lasts for four hours each day.

After that, ambulances will transport those with limited mobility. Residents must travel into Russian territory first. Then, they fly to Belarus before crossing back into Ukraine.

However, many people choose to stay in Oleshky. The town lacks basic services like water, power, and gas. Most buildings face widespread destruction from the conflict.

Meanwhile, officials promised to send humanitarian aid to those who remain. Russia claims to have prepared tons of food and medicine. They also provided fuel for generators.

Still, some residents refuse to leave their homes. One woman said she could not abandon her pets. Other families worry about leaving elderly relatives behind.

Furthermore, life in the city remains dangerous. One resident described using garden wheelbarrows to move wounded people. This remains a common sight in the damaged town.

Finally, the ceasefire provides a rare moment of peace for the region. It is the first break in fighting since February 2022. The truce lasts until November 1.
