A 54-year-old teacher recently shared her story about a school shooting. Becky Drury teaches at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon. She survived the attack by pretending to be dead.
Next, Drury described the moment the violence began. She tried to close her classroom door after seeing the gunman. The attacker shot her before she could secure the room.
Also, she fell to the floor immediately after the gunshot. She realized the shooter might return to fire again. She stayed very still to survive the encounter.
Then, she looked at her severe injuries. Her left hand was nearly severed during the attack. Her other arm also sustained serious damage.
However, she could not move to help her students. She felt helpless while lying on the floor. She could not protect herself or anyone else from the gunman.
Meanwhile, the attacker killed three students and another teacher. The victims included five-year-old Rhoam Summer and 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert. Two other students also died in the tragic event.
After that, police identified the shooter as a 16-year-old former student. He had special education needs at the school. Another teacher tried to stop him by throwing her phone.
Finally, a parent arrived and shot the attacker. This action ended the threat at the elementary school. Police have not yet determined a motive for the suspect.
Still, Drury wanted to clarify reports about her actions. Some stories claimed she protected a student during the shooting. She stated she was shot before she could act.
Now, the community continues to grieve this unimaginable loss. Drury expressed deep sadness for everyone affected by the event. Her heart remains broken for the victims and their families.
