Students at the Trishuli Secondary School in Bidur were forced to flee for their lives as teachers scrambled to move them toward higher ground. The experience left many young students suffering from panic attacks and lingering anxiety as they witnessed the sudden transformation of their environment into a dangerous, water-logged landscape.
The scale of the disaster is vast, affecting regions stretching across Nepal into Tibet. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 180 people have lost their lives, while at least 1,400 individuals remain unaccounted for. The surge is believed to have been triggered ugh force to destroy entire residential settlements and critical infrastructure, including dams and power stations.
The aftermath of the deluge has left once-thriving areas in complete ruins. Local residents describe the scene as apocalyptic, noting that entire neighborhoods, horticulture gardens, and local agricultural hubs have been erased from the map. In the town of Betrawati, the destruction of solar power stations and coffee farms has dealt a severe blow to the local economy and the livelihoods of those who managed to survive the initial wall of water.
Authorities have identified several districts, including Rasuwa, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan, as being at high risk. Residents in these areas have been placed under a high alert, with government officials issuing strict warnings for citizens to avoid riverbanks. The recovery of bodies has proven difficult, as many victims appear to have been carried far downstream ties.
As the floodwaters slowly begin to recede, families across Nepal and beyond are grappling with the agony of not knowing the fate of their relatives. Hospitals in Kathmandu have become hubs of desperation, where family members gather to search for those airlifted from the disaster zones. Many of the missing include professionals who were working on hydropower projects, as well as Indian tourists who were transiting through the region on a pilgrimage to the sacred lake of Kailash Mansarovar.
