Russian missiles struck Kyiv even as peace talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine resumed. Diplomats continue to seek a framework for lasting peace.

Russia launched new missile attacks on Kyiv this week. This occurred shortly after Russia expressed interest in resuming peace talks. President Trump recently claimed the world is close to ending the war.

However, the strikes hit several homes on Wednesday night. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that six people suffered injuries. Firefighters worked hard to control blazes throughout the capital city.

Also, these attacks happened during a new diplomatic push. Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are leading these discussions. Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg on Wednesday.

Next, Witkoff visited Ukraine before his trip to Russia. He also met with leaders from Finland and Norway in Oslo. They discussed energy ceasefires and security guarantees for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russian officials remain skeptical about the current proposals. Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov called the ideas not very useful. He suggested holding more talks in Abu Dhabi this November.

Still, Putin claims his troops are advancing across the front lines. Ukraine and its allies dispute this view of the war. They describe the current situation as a stalemate.

After that, President Zelensky offered his thoughts on a potential deal. He would accept a plan to freeze the war at the current lines. He calls this a necessary step to stop the killing.

Furthermore, the US and Ukraine have faced recent tensions. Trump suggested that Ukraine needs a new leader to negotiate effectively. He also expressed concerns over rising fuel prices.

Finally, Russia released American citizen Stephen Hubbard before the talks. Hubbard is a 74-year-old former teacher who was held in a Russian jail. Trump noted that no prisoner swap was required for his release.
