Singer Chris Brown received an eight-month suspended prison sentence for an affray incident at a London nightclub in 2023.
A London court gave singer Chris Brown an eight-month suspended prison sentence on Monday. He pleaded guilty to affray following a violent incident at a club. The attack occurred in February 2023 at a private venue in Mayfair.
Also, Brown struck a man named Abraham Diaw with a glass tequila bottle. CCTV footage showed him hitting the victim four times. Two of those strikes connected with the victim's head.
Next, the court sentenced Brown's vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, for his role in the fight. He received a four-month suspended sentence. Both men must pay 1,500 pounds in legal costs.
Then, Judge Tony Baumgartner spoke about the danger of the attack. He noted that using a glass bottle as a weapon is extremely risky. The judge stated that the law applies to everyone regardless of fame.
However, the judge decided against immediate jail time for the singer. He cited Brown’s guilty plea and his overall compliance with court rules. The judge also considered the impact on Brown’s four children.
After that, the court heard that the victim required hospital treatment. He suffered a head injury and a knee ligament issue. The victim eventually stopped supporting the prosecution of the case.
Meanwhile, the defense lawyer described the incident as short and regrettable. She noted that Brown apologized to the people inside the club. The lawyers claimed the singer is a dedicated father.
Finally, Brown will avoid prison if he stays out of trouble for 12 months. The singer signed autographs for fans after leaving the courthouse. He also posted a video on social media following the hearing.
