The Atlanta Dream defeated the Golden State Valkyries 80-69 to force a Game 7 in the WNBA Finals.

The Atlanta Dream kept their championship hopes alive on Thursday. They defeated the Golden State Valkyries 80-69 in Game 6. This win forces a decisive Game 7 in the WNBA Finals.

Also, this marks the first time in league history that a series will reach seven games. The league expanded the format last year to create this opportunity. Both teams now seek their first franchise title.

Meanwhile, Allisha Gray led the charge for Atlanta. She scored 23 points despite playing through a hand injury. Gray successfully made five shots from beyond the arc during the game.

Next, Rhyne Howard contributed 21 points for the Dream. Angel Reese added a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. The team avoided trailing after the opening minute of play.

As a result, Atlanta built a massive lead early in the contest. They hit six of eight three-pointers in the first quarter. This helped them secure a 32-15 advantage heading into the second period.

However, the Valkyries struggled to find their rhythm early. Head coach Natalie Nakase called the slow start unacceptable. Gabby Williams paced the team with 26 points in the loss.

Still, Golden State managed to cut the lead in the second half. They outscored Atlanta in the third quarter to trim the gap. Kaila Charles hit a buzzer-beating shot to give them momentum.

Later, the Dream answered back with key shots from Gray and Reese. These baskets pushed the lead back to 19 points. The Valkyries could not overcome the deficit despite late efforts.

Finally, the teams will travel to San Francisco for the finale. The winner-take-all game happens this Saturday night at the Chase Center. Both squads look to secure their first championship trophy.
