A federal judge in Argentina has officially dismissed a criminal investigation into President Javier Milei regarding cryptocurrency fraud allegations.
A federal judge in Argentina recently dropped a criminal case against President Javier Milei. The investigation involved allegations of fraud related to a cryptocurrency project.
Also, the court dismissed the case against the president’s sister, Karina Milei. Judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi made this decision after prosecutors requested it.
Next, the legal dispute centered on the $Libra cryptocurrency. President Milei mentioned this digital coin in a social media post back in February 2025.
However, the value of the coin dropped quickly after his post. Many investors lost significant amounts of money when the price crashed.
After that, opposition members in Congress threatened to start impeachment proceedings. Critics accused the president of participating in a scheme to deceive buyers.
Meanwhile, President Milei denied any wrongdoing throughout the process. He insisted that he acted in good faith when he shared information about the project.
Then, the president explained that he did not know the project's details at first. He deleted his post once he learned more about how it worked.
As a result, Judge de Giorgi ruled that the events did not qualify as a crime. He found no evidence of intentional deception by the president.
Still, the president maintained that people invested in the coin of their own free will. He argued that those buyers understood the risks of digital currency.
Finally, the president’s office previously confirmed he had no role in developing the coin. The government’s Anti-Corruption Office also investigated if he acted improperly.
Now, the legal case is closed. The court records confirm that the judge found no reason to continue the criminal inquiry.
