French authorities are extending curfews and banning protests in major cities following recent riots and widespread property destruction.

Paris officials are extending a partial curfew in parts of the city until Monday. Meanwhile, authorities in Marseille and Lyon have issued a total ban on all protests this weekend. These measures come after widespread disorder and rioting occurred across France last weekend.

Also, several major museums in the French capital will close on Saturday. The Louvre, Orsay, and Picasso museums will remain shut to protect them from potential damage. Government officials expect more demonstrations to occur despite the new restrictions.

Next, President Emmanuel Macron addressed the nation regarding the ongoing unrest. He stated that only authorized union demonstrations may proceed in areas without total bans. Officials will propose specific routes for these groups to follow to ensure safety.

Furthermore, the government is increasing police presence significantly. Interior Minister Jean-Didier Berger noted that police deployments will rise by 20% this weekend. Authorities aim to prevent a repeat of the destruction seen previously.

As a result of the recent riots, the legal system is processing many participants. The justice minister reported that 217 people received jail sentences after fast-track trials. Police have arrested 2,700 individuals across the country since the trouble began.

Then, local leaders provided details on specific city restrictions. Paris police will limit movement near the Place de la République and the Les Halles shopping area. These zones will be off-limits from 11:00 PM until 6:00 AM each night.

Meanwhile, officials in Marseille have suspended public transportation for the entire day on Saturday. This city suffered severe damage to over 500 businesses during the previous riots. A curfew will also apply to the general population in the Rhône region.

Finally, cities such as Nice, Toulon, Rouen, and Grenoble are also implementing curfews. President Macron condemned far-left groups for organizing seditious acts against the Republic. The government remains focused on restoring calm before the upcoming national election cycle.
