A violent raid on a Nigerian village has left at least 48 people dead. Authorities and human rights groups are investigating the tragedy.

Gunmen recently attacked a remote village in the Taraba state of Nigeria. Police confirmed that at least 48 people died in this violent event.

Initially, officials reported only 10 deaths. However, teams found more bodies on Sunday during a search of the area.

Meanwhile, some victims drowned while trying to escape the attackers. Others died in the nearby bushes during the chaos.

Amnesty International reports an even higher number. They claim 52 people died based on information from local community members.

The raid began just after midday prayers on Friday. The attackers stayed in the village for about four hours.

Also, witnesses saw roughly 100 gunmen arrive on 50 motorcycles. They looted shops and stole money, food, and other supplies.

Then, the attackers burned many houses. Survivors said they ran in all directions because they felt nowhere was safe.

After that, police officers arrived at the scene. The gunmen had already fled into the difficult terrain, avoiding any conflict with police.

Next, law enforcement officials began patrols to restore order. They continue to monitor the village to keep residents safe from further harm.

Still, Amnesty International demands an investigation into these killings. They argue that rural communities remain vulnerable to these dangerous groups.

Finally, this violence highlights ongoing security issues in Nigeria. Many parts of the country suffer from raids by armed gangs and groups.
