Severe flash floods in Syria caused five deaths, including four children. Rescue teams are currently searching for five missing people.
Heavy rainfall recently hit several Syrian provinces. These storms caused at least five deaths across northern and eastern regions.
Also, the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management confirmed the tragic news on Thursday. Sadly, four of the victims were children.
Next, the children drowned in separate water bodies. These incidents occurred within the Raqqa and Deir Az Zor governorates.
Meanwhile, a man died in the western Raqqa countryside. Floodwaters trapped his vehicle near the al-Salmani Bridge.
As a result, officials report that five people are still missing. This group includes two more children lost in the storms.
Later, the ministry warned about severe infrastructure damage. Several bridges in Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Az Zor, Hasakah, and Homs sustained heavy destruction.
For example, the al-Salmani Bridge near Tabqa collapsed. This structural failure closed the main road connecting Raqqa to Aleppo.
Still, rescue teams worked hard to help survivors. They saved 15 civilians stuck in their vehicles during the flood.
After that, emergency workers evacuated about 375 families. These people lived in camps on the outskirts of Raqqa.
Finally, the government continues to post live updates. This marks the second straight day of emergency rescue operations.
However, this is not an isolated event for Syria. The country frequently faces dangerous flooding from heavy seasonal rains.
Earlier this year, UNICEF noted major impacts from similar weather. Floods displaced hundreds of families and damaged many water treatment plants.
