A Romanian court has ordered far-right figure Calin Georgescu to remain in jail for an extra month during a major fraud investigation.

A court in Romania recently extended the jail time for Calin Georgescu. He is a far-right politician currently facing serious legal trouble. Officials keep him in pre-trial detention for another 30 days.

Authorities are investigating him for a large fraud case. They believe the scheme involves roughly 1.1 million euros. This equals about 1.2 million dollars in United States currency.

Meanwhile, the Bucharest Court of Appeal made this new decision. They reviewed the case after a previous ruling by a lower court. That earlier order had allowed for a different outcome.

Previously, a lower court moved Georgescu to house arrest. This happened on October 13. The judges expected him to stay home during the ongoing fraud investigation.

However, the higher court chose to overturn that earlier ruling. Now, Georgescu must remain in police custody instead of his home. The legal process continues to move forward.

Also, the investigation links back to the 2024 presidential election. Georgescu was a frontrunner in that race before the election was cancelled. Many people noted his pro-Russian political views at the time.

Now, the legal system focuses on the massive financial fraud allegations. The court believes that keeping him detained is necessary. They want to ensure the investigation remains secure.

Finally, the politician remains behind bars for at least one more month. Prosecutors continue to gather evidence regarding the missing funds. The public waits for further updates from the court.
