A young man attacked a police officer with knives outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. Police shot and killed the suspect at the scene.

Police in Belgrade shot and killed a young man on Wednesday. The incident took place outside the Israeli embassy. Officials labeled the event a terrorist attack.

Also, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic provided details about the confrontation. The suspect rushed toward a police officer while holding two knives. He shouted a religious phrase during the assault.

Next, the attacker wounded the officer on the face. The officer responded immediately by firing his weapon at the suspect. This action ended the threat at the scene.

Meanwhile, authorities identified the attacker as a Serbian citizen. He was a minor who had support for the Islamic State group. Security agencies monitored him closely before this event.

As a result, the government raised the national terrorism threat level to red. This is the highest level possible. It requires stricter security checks across many public areas.

Furthermore, police will increase their presence at key infrastructure sites. They will also guard locations where large groups of people gather. Safety remains a top priority for the country.

Later, Minister Dacic visited the injured officer at his home. The officer is doing well despite his facial wound. He did not require any hospital treatment.

After that, the Israeli foreign ministry confirmed the embassy was closed. No embassy staff members suffered any injuries during the attack. The building remained secure throughout the ordeal.

Still, this is the second attack on this embassy in recent years. A man used a crossbow to shoot a guard in June 2024. That officer also survived and killed his attacker.

Finally, officials continue their investigation into the motive. They discovered images of an extremist flag on the suspect's social media account. The situation remains under close observation.
