Welsh First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth is seeking more autonomy for Wales, arguing that the UK does not function as a partnership of equals.

The first minister of Wales wants a fresh deal for his nation. Rhun ap Iorwerth says the current bond with the United Kingdom fails to function properly.

He believes the UK is not a partnership of equals. Because of this, he seeks a new agreement to fix long-standing unfair treatment.

Also, the first minister wrote a letter to the British prime minister. He officially asked for more control over local Welsh affairs.

Specifically, he wants authority over policing and the justice system. He also requests power over the rail network and natural resources.

Meanwhile, his party, Plaid Cymru, holds the leadership in Wales. They took power in May and ended a century of Labour Party control.

Next, the leader signed a special pact with Scotland and Northern Ireland. This document asserts their individual right to choose their own future.

Furthermore, the pact warns the British Parliament that its current influence is fading. It highlights that the status quo cannot last forever.

However, he insists this plan does not aim to destroy the United Kingdom. He simply wants the Welsh government to manage its own path.

Still, he admits that Wales is moving toward a goal of independence. This journey remains a key focus for his political party.

Finally, he clarified his immediate plans regarding a vote. He will not push for an independence referendum during this current term.
