Jordan launched a military strike in Syria following a deadly church funeral attack. Both nations now face heightened tensions and border closures.

Jordanian fighter jets recently conducted a military operation inside Syria. The country targeted groups it identified as terrorists. This action follows a deadly shooting at a church funeral last week.

Meanwhile, Syrian health officials reported five deaths from the strike. The victims included women, children, and one elderly man. These casualties occurred in a village within the Daraa province.

However, Jordan claimed its jets hit several terrorists. The military did not provide specific details about the individuals killed. They stated the strike served as a direct retaliation.

Also, the two nations disagree on coordination efforts. Jordan claims it worked with the Syrian government. Syria denies receiving any prior notice about the Monday attack.

As a result, Syrian authorities closed a major border crossing. They suspended all passenger and commercial travel. Officials cited safety concerns for travelers and workers at the site.

Next, Syria opened direct communication channels with Jordan. They also began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The Nassib crossing remains the only commercial link between these neighbors.

Before the strike, Jordanian forces captured three suspects. Police arrested two brothers and their brother-in-law. Officers found the men hiding in an abandoned house near Karak.

Further, Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya confirmed the attackers were Jordanian citizens. The men hid in a building near the funeral site. Authorities apprehended them before dawn on Monday.

Finally, the church attack resulted in nine total deaths. Another 34 people suffered injuries during the funeral event. The government continues to investigate the circumstances of the violence.
