Saudi Arabia plans to host the 2027 Asian Cup in January and February despite ongoing security concerns in the region.

Saudi Arabia will host the 2027 Asian Cup this winter. The tournament begins on January 7 and ends on February 5.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed the opening match takes place in Riyadh. The host nation will play against Palestine in Group A.

Also, the 72,000-seat King Fahd Sports City Stadium will host the final game. Eight venues across three cities will stage 51 matches.

However, safety concerns surround the event due to regional instability. Several participating countries worry about the security of their teams and fans.

Furthermore, the Dakar Rally organizers recently moved their 2027 race out of the country. They cited recent developments in the region as the main reason.

Still, Saudi organizers insist that safety remains their top priority. They continue to promise a secure environment for all athletes and attendees.

As a result of recent attacks, some sporting events faced cancellations. Houthi forces from Yemen have launched various missile and drone strikes lately.

Consequently, some officials questioned the viability of the current schedule. Japan’s football leader recently expressed doubts about hosting the games safely.

Nevertheless, the Asian Football Confederation maintains the original calendar. The tournament will span 29 days as originally planned.

After that, the group stage will conclude on January 20. The knockout rounds are set to begin just two days later.

Finally, defending champions Qatar will start their journey against Thailand. Other teams like Japan, South Korea, and Australia will also compete.

This marks the first time Saudi Arabia hosts this major tournament. It serves as a precursor to their 2034 World Cup hosting duties.
