White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia faces scrutiny over her claims of being a licensed lawyer.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia faces new criticism today. People are questioning claims about her past career as a lawyer.

Meanwhile, a nonprofit group filed a formal complaint. They sent it to the State Bar of California this week.

The group claims Zacharia falsely stated she is a lawyer. In California, calling yourself a lawyer without a license is a crime.

Next, critics pointed to her LinkedIn profile. It shows she earned a law degree from Pepperdine in 2011. However, they doubt she ever earned a license to practice.

Also, Michelle Kuppersmith leads the Campaign for Accountability. She believes Zacharia misled the public to build her own reputation.

Then, reporters asked Zacharia where she passed the bar exam. She claimed she passed it while living in China. This answer caused even more media scrutiny.

However, China requires people to be citizens to take their national bar exam. Reports suggest she does not hold a license in any U.S. state either.

After that, Zacharia defended her background in a statement. She said she practices international transaction law with proper credentials.

Now, she serves as the White House press secretary. She started this new job just this week under President Trump.

Finally, her career history includes work at the Department of Homeland Security. She also worked for the Trump Media and Technology Group recently.
